There are approximately 65 million people living in the U.S. with an STD. A person
with an untreated STD may be 6-10 times more likely to contract HIV during sex.
STD's are spread easily because people often do not know they are infected and unknowingly
transmit it to their partners. And the cycle continues over and over. To stop the
cycle of STD's growing in our community, sexual partners need to be tested and if
necessary treated.
People are more likely to get tested if they learn they were exposed from a sexual
partner. If possible, consider informing your partners in person or by phone. If
you send an e-card with StopTheSpreadOnline and they have a spam blocker, the e-card
you send them may go into their spam folder. But if you met on-line, sometimes the
only contact information you have is an e-mail address. StopTheSpreadOnline is a
tool you can use to easily inform your partner they may have been exposed to an
STD.
Suggestions for Using This Site:
- While you can choose to send e-cards anonymously, please consider including your
email address or a personal message in the e-card. Your partner will likely recognize
your email address which decreases the chances the message might be perceived as
spam and deleted before reading it.
- Tell everyone you've had oral, anal or vaginal sex within the past year they may
have been exposed to a STD.
- To jog your memory, go through your e-mail address book, Buddy Lists, and past e-mail
messages to identify past sex partners.
- Don't worry about giving medical details. The testing providers and links on this
website can provide needed STD information to your partner.
This service is totally confidential. Your e-card goes no farther than the person
to whom you're sending it. No information is reported to any government or private
agency, and there is no record kept of your e-card when it is sent.
